What Might Be Causing It

  • Brief sharp pain with cold or sweets: often early decay or exposed root surfaces

  • Lingering or throbbing pain: the nerve may be inflamed or infected

  • Pain when biting: a cracked tooth, loose filling, or infection

  • Jaw soreness and morning headaches: grinding or clenching

Only an exam and X-ray can confirm the cause.

Why You Shouldn’t Wait

Pain that suddenly stops does not always mean the problem is gone. The nerve may have died while infection remains. Early treatment is usually simpler and may save the tooth.

Don’t wait for the pain to get worse.
